Transgender Day of Remembrance : 20th November, 2024
TW: Transphobia and Transphobic Violence
To acknowledge Trans Day of Remembrance (20th November annually) and Trans Awareness Week please join us at the Charing Cross Forecourt on Wednesday 20th November 11am – 2pm in front of the Bendigo sign.
We will be standing vigil for those lives lost to anti-trans violence in the past 12 months as reported by the Trans Murder Monitoring project.
We invite trans, gender diverse and allies to stand with us in solidarity and respect for all the trans and gender diverse lives lost, reported and unreported, through direct violence or through suicide. This is also an opportunity to recognise the strength of the Bendigo trans and gender diverse community and connect with others.
We ask our community to decorate a butterfly from our template to represent themselves and the support they have to the community. Each person taken by transphobic violence will be represented in a similar way. You can download a template to decorate here or come in person to Thorne Harbour Country (48 Mundy St, Bendigo). Drop in your completed decorations or bring them on the day. We encourage the community to bring any other tributes they see as appropriate.
Local trans voices will share their experiences and call for an end to stigma and violence throughout the installation.
Raise awareness | Stop stigma | Save lives
